Family
So the best part of Christmas was that my mom and my sisters, Alison and Anna, came to visit me. They stayed for 4 days. We toured the colonia and visited with some families I love. I am proud of them for trying new food- even spicy food, and speaking Spanish. Best Christmas present EVER!
Well, after they left I had a dream that I thought I would share... with everyone.
I was in a car with my mom, Alison and Anna and two other people I don't know, and someone was trying to kill all of us (thats why he put us all in the same car). There was a big machine on wheels that was going to smash the car. A traffic cop lady was directing this big machine, and we drove by her slowly so I rolled down the window and started begging her to stop the machine, but she just ignored me. I kept asking her, and then I thought "what am I doing? God is all powerful! He is the one who can save us!" So I started praying. And I told everyone else "Hey! we should ask God to save us!" so we did. "Praise Him because HE is all powerful. God, you have our lives in your hands! have mercy on us, save us!" I kept praying like that.
And then I woke up. There was no resolution to weather we lived or died, but I woke up with an amazing peace. It was compleatly resolved in that we asked God to protect us and I knew we were in His hands. We declared His name and power, and trusted Him with our lives and thats what really mattered- not if we lived or died. "for to me- to live is Christ and to die is gain" Phillipians 1:21
Not only did I have peace when I woke up but a renewed fear of God. The dream really reminded me that I am at His mercy- not only does he protect me but he also has the power to take my life- "He gives and takes away" That led me to think about how the colonia is a pretty dangerous place and that God really has protected us and all the missionaries over the years. Not that I am afraid- but I have more reverence type fear (reminded of His power- He is todopoderoso- omnipotent). I am reminded of how I need to seek him for every little thing- not wait untill my life is in danger. I don't know- I was going through a kind of rebellious time spiritually- not praying, not really taking time to meditate on what I have been reading in the Bible, and this was a good wake up jolt for me- but a gentle one. It was a sweet morning. That's the only way I know how to describe it.
Next was Ruth’s house where I got to help finish up the huge job of making over 100 tamales. That's not even half of them in the photo. We ate more tamales. At Ofelia and José’s house we had steak, beans, sausages, and they tried to serve us more tamales. The trick was that we didn’t want to make a big deal about eating at lots of other houses- we wanted to make each family we visited feel special, so really we had 4 decent sized meals over the course of 4 hours. And it was all so yummy. The biggest success for me was only enchilaring myself twice. (enchilar- what happens when you eat more chile than you can handle. enchilaring- spanglish)
